The Saginaw Choral Society would like to inform students and educators of a scholarship opportunity with the MPluse Summer Performing Arts Institutes. The MPulse Summer program offers nearly 200 high school students an opportunity to gain performance experience under the direction of the University of Michigan School of Music, Theater & Dance programs.
Students interested in applying for the summer MPluse program may also apply for the Glen Thomas Rideout Vocal Scholarship. This award will be granted to Vocal Arts student(s) with preference given to candidates from the Saginaw, Bay and Midland counties as recommended by the Saginaw Choral Society.
To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should send an email to mpulse@umich.edu requesting scholarship consideration.
In 2016 the SCS collaborated with our neighboring non-profit, Major Chords for Minors to produce a week-long day camp for 30 students grades 3-9. ChoralPalooza is called a camp for singers, but it is much more. ChoralPalooza has teamed up with the finest teachers and performers in the area so that campers experience the fun of singing together, coupled with exposure to their favorite instruments, and elements of music recording.
Daily sessions in ensemble singing, directed by Jeremiah Kraniak, Choral Society Music Director, teach campers about melody and harmony, good vocal technique, and elements of music notation and theory. Special interest sessions introduce campers at all skill levels to their favorite instruments, solo singing, or accompanying. There is a final performance for families and friends on the last day of camp.
